FLAG member ASCO joins Boeing 747-8 program

Zaventem - August 09, 2007 ñ Asco, the Flemish family-owned developer and producer of precision components for the aerospace industry, is to participate in the construction of the new Boeing 747-8. At cruise speed, the program will generate a yearly turnover of EUR 25 million.

For the 747-8, the latest version of the famous jumbo jet, Asco will be designing and assembling slat tracks, vital connections between the engine hood and the wing. Four of these are needed in a 747-8. Asco is providing plane builder Airbus with these slat tracks, in which it is the absolute world leader for larger planes, as well as parts of the landing gear.

Asco already has contracts with the American Boeing, European Airbus, Brazilian player Embraer and the Canadian firm Bormbardier. The company is headquartered in Zaventem. It has 7 assembly shops there and a production plant in Germany and Canada. Over 800 people are employed by Asco, which has plans for further expansion at its Zaventem site to safeguard its strategy of long-term, profitable growth. (reported by De Tijd newspaper)
