The Microtherm Group is the leading provider of advanced thermal insulation solutions for high temperature applications in the Aerospace  and other industries.

Since 2000, Microtherm NV is a fully owned Belgian company with head quarters in Sint Niklaas. With production facilities in Belgium and Japan and a sales agency with warehouse in the US, we are a truly international company. To emphasize our market leadership in the field of thermal high temperature insulation, we have created a vaste network of internal sales agents and external distributors.

Microtherm^® was created in the early 1960’s by two scientists, Joseph McWilliams and John Hughes. They have created the original Microtherm^® formulation and  have patented it in 1965. Realising the commercial potential of the new insulation, Joseph McWilliams and John Hughes teamed up with Doug Lovatt and Mike Hardiman and formed Micropore International Ltd. The company headquarters was established at Hadzor, near Droitwich in the UK.

Manufacture began in the UK and then in 1971 a second manufacturing site was opened in Sint-Niklaas in Belgium. The Nippon Microtherm Company started in Japan in 1983 and Microtherm Inc started in the USA in 1992.

Micropore International Ltd remained as the company name until 1999 when it was changed to Microtherm International Ltd to reflect the internationally recognized product name.

The Microtherm group provides complete thermal design solutions based on their versatile range of insulation products. Microtherm® is a microporous insulation which is around four times more efficient than conventional insulation materials at high temperatures. It is a silica based insulation that is fibre free and totally environmentally safe. Because it out performs all conventional insulations, it has widespread application wherever high temperatures are encountered in areas where space is limited. It can be used for precise process temperature control, for energy savings, and also for passive fire protection.

Markets are diverse and include aerospace & defense, transport, steel and non-ferrous manufacture, glass making, petrochemical and power generation including fuel cells, building & construction including fire resistant lift doors, domestic appliances, storage heaters and datalogging.

Microtherm maintain their strong market position by providing complete solutions to thermal design problems. They offer a varied and versatile product range backed by full technical and commercial support. During analysis of a customer problem they can provide full 3D transient thermal calculations together with thermography for system verification. Their scientists and applications specialists ensure that all insulation system designs are optimised and they will also supervise installation on site when necessary. These services are provided on a worldwide basis either directly, or by their Global Partners working in cooperation with one or more of the principal manufacturing sites.
